Glenogle Road
Robert Chambers, in Traditions of Edinburgh describes the ancient Gabriel's Road (West Silvermills Lane was part of it) which diagonally crossed the New Town on its way to Stockbridge. Only the steps that lead from Saxe Cobourg Place to Glenogle Road remain. It was the road that the trades people took from Stockbridge to Edinburgh
Gabriel's Road
The Colonies along Glenogle road were built in the 1860s as a result
of the co-operative movement, which was born out of concern for workers
welfare. The road names recall leading members in the community and
the co-op of the time. The houses were built for trades people and
a motif depicting six trades are on the gable end of six terraces.
